Glide’s Net Zero Plan
A roadmap to achieve net zero emissions by 2050
Introduction
Glide is committed to reducing its environmental impact and contributing to the global efforts to limit the rise of global temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius. As a leading provider of broadband services in the UK, we recognise our responsibility to measure, manage and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions across our operations.
This document outlines our journey towards becoming a Net Zero organisation, which covers our scope 1 and 2 emissions (direct and indirect emissions from our own energy use) and our scope 3 emissions (indirect emissions from our upstream and downstream activities, such as purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting and waste disposal).
Our net zero targets
Our net zero targets are as follows:
- Reduce our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 70% by 2030 and 100% by 2050, from a 2019 baseline.
- Reduce our scope 3 emissions by 40% by 2030 and 100% by 2050, from a 2019 baseline.
- Offset any remaining emissions through verified carbon removal projects, such as reforestation, afforestation and carbon capture and storage.
These targets meet the SBTi’s criteria for 1.5 degree alignment. If we identify opportunities to deliver above and beyond these targets, we will.
Our net zero actions
To achieve our net zero targets, we have identified the following actions:
- Switch to 100% renewable electricity for our offices, data centres and network infrastructure by 2025.
- Continue our ongoing programme to upgrade our cabinets, removing active components where possible, reducing energy consumption significantly across our estate.
- Improve our energy efficiency and reduce our energy consumption by 20% by 2030, through measures such as smart metering, LED lighting, virtualisation and optimisation of our network equipment.
- When viable, transition to low-carbon and electric vehicles for our fleet.
- Measure and report our emissions annually, from 2025, following the government guidance set out in the Procurement Policy note 06/21[1].
- Ensure our packaging is environmentally friendly and considers the GHG emissions behind the production of such packaging.
- Leverage supplier and customer relationships to collaborate on reducing our emissions. This could include supporting them in sourcing renewable energy, using circular economy principles and choosing low-carbon products and services.
- Review and update our net zero plan regularly, to reflect the latest climate science, technological innovations and stakeholder feedback.
Conclusion
Our net zero plan is a strategic priority for Glide, as we believe it will create value for our business, our customers, our shareholders and our society. By reducing our emissions, we will increase our resilience, lower our costs, improve our competitiveness and support the transition to a low-carbon economy.
We invite our stakeholders to join us on our net zero journey and to share their feedback and suggestions on how we can improve our plan and performance. Together, we can make a positive difference for the planet and the people.
