Building resilient connectivity across Angus Council’s secondary schools
Angus Council provides essential local services across Angus, including supporting the digital infrastructure used by its secondary schools.
As the Council moved away from its traditional hub‑and‑spoke WAN, it needed a connectivity model that would give each school reliable, independent internet access without compromising resilience.
Following a competitive tender in 2025, Glide was selected to provide resilient connectivity across eight secondary school sites, helping Angus Council modernise its network whilst maintaining continuity for staff and pupils.
The challenge
Angus Council was moving away from an older WAN infrastructure that connected its secondary schools through a central hub-and-spoke model.
The Council needed to introduce dedicated internet connectivity at each school whilst ensuring the new approach provided the resilience required to support everyday teaching, administration and digital services.
With connectivity increasingly fundamental to school operations, Angus Council also needed to reduce the risk of individual circuit or carrier failures interrupting access at a site.
The delivery
After a competitive tender, Glide was appointed as Angus Council’s connectivity partner in 2025.
Glide provided two resilient internet connections into each of the Council’s eight secondary school sites. The connections were delivered using diverse routes and diverse carriers, helping ensure that a single network or infrastructure issue would be less likely to affect both services.
The installations were completed quickly, with each site brought online and handed over smoothly. This enabled Angus Council to transition from its previous WAN arrangement to dedicated, resilient internet connectivity at each school with minimal disruption.
The outcome
Angus Council’s secondary schools now benefit from independent, resilient internet connectivity designed to keep essential services available.
The solution has performed reliably since installation, with no reported incidents in approximately 11 months. The stability of the service has also meant that Angus Council has required very little support from Glide.
By combining dual connectivity, carrier diversity and route diversity at each site, the council has established a more resilient foundation for its schools’ current and future digital requirements.
