According to a recent article in The Guardian renewable energy is likely to overtake nuclear power in the UK in just five years and by 2015 renewables will power one in ten British homes.
We’re big believers in renewable energy, so this is music to our ears.
Renewable energy is absolutely the only way we can be sure of a sustainable, greener future, which is why we work closely with Ecotricity, the UK’s first green electricity company.
If the name Ecotricity sounds familiar, that’s because in September their battery powered electric car, Nemesis, beat the UK land speed record.
Their green energy ambitions don’t stop there. They currently generate renewable energy using the power of the wind and the sun, and they’re working towards a practical model to harness the power of the sea.
Thanks to Ecotricity, more than 64 per cent of the electricity we supply comes from renewable sources and from March next year that figure will top 70 per cent.
Our ultimate aim is to supply only renewable energy.
But the renewables revolution doesn’t stop with electricity. According to National Grid, so-called green gas (made from organic materials, such as waste food) could potentially supply as many as 50 per cent of Britain’s homes.
Ecotricity is currently working towards making green gas a major energy source for the UK and we’re sure they’ll be successful in this endeavour.
