iStock_000025009565_Small It’s that time of year where many students will be moving into new houses, ready to start another year of university. Gone are the days of living in halls with people you might not have got along with, as you’ve now upgraded to something a little more spacious with your mates. But one thing that probably won’t be on your mind is insurance. Why would it be? Well, what if we told you that you should definitely be considering student contents insurance – especially if you’ve got valuable items in your home. Student homes are a target for burglars as students are known to be equipped with laptops, mobile phones and other expensive electrical gadgets, and a household of multiple tenants becomes an easy target for burglars. But for most students, replacing a laptop or a mobile phone would be pretty much impossible on a student budget. Here at Glide, we’re working closely with Endsleigh to make students’ lives simpler. Endsleigh offer specialist insurance policies to students. They were formed by the National Union of Students and provide the best rates to ensure that your valuables are protected. Endsleigh can cover your gadgets against: –        Loss –        Theft –        Accidental damage –        Liquid damage Arranging cover for your items is simple – just click here and you can do it all online! We’ve also got a few practical pointers to ensure that you don’t make yourself an easy target whilst living in a student household:

  1. Keep all valuables such as laptops, mobiles, ipods, cameras etc hidden from view. Having expensive items on display makes it much more tempting for a burglar!
  2. Lock your doors – this doesn’t just apply whilst you’re out either. Research has shown that many burglaries take place whilst a person is in, so make sure you lock your doors to protect yourself too.
  3. Lock your windows – Open windows are also another easy way for a burglar to make their way into your home, so make sure they’re securely shut when leaving the house.
  4. Keep bicycles secure – these are easy pickings from outside student houses so either keep them indoors or keep them chained up with a secure lock.
  5. Light timers – Light timers are a great way to avoid having to leave a light on all evening whilst you’re out clubbing with your friends. They’re cost-effective and can be set to come on for however long you like.

So protect yourself and your property and make sure you have another great year!
