The days of the student bedsit are long gone.
Accommodation for Students has discovered that today’s university house hunters are a bit more particular.
According to the results of their survey any landlord who wants to attract student tenants needs to consider a number of key factors, and we’re not talking about just the basics.
These accommodation must-haves make the dingy ‘student digs’ parents talk about sound like something from a depressing 80s sitcom.
Let’s start with the bedroom (where else?). 65 per cent of students want double beds, after all you need someone to keep you warm at night if you want to keep the heating bills down.
Plenty of wardrobe space and shelving units are also essential, with 85 per cent of students saying that they need good storage.
35 per cent of students now expect an en-suite bathroom and a further 30 per cent would prefer to have a bath and a shower in the bathroom. This should help avoid disagreements over whose turn it is to clean the loo!
45 per cent of students would like a house with large windows, natural light is always good when it comes to revision time.
Communal space and outdoor space are also popular, with 80 per cent of students identifying communal areas as a key feature in the properties they would like to rent. House party anyone?
Landlords who want to ensure their properties are let to students should consider investing in at least some of these things.
Student requirements have changed and sophisticated executive style homes now prove more popular.
Accommodation for Students is a search engine for student accommodation, student houses, student flats and private halls in the UK. Every year they speak to 1,000 students as part of this survey.
