There are some truly unique, not to mention bizarre societies available to join while you’re at university. Never again will the opportunity present itself to become part of the ‘Harry Potter Appreciation Society’ or the less fluffily titled ‘Assassins Guild’.

We’ve trawled the society pages of some of the UK’s biggest universities and these are some of the, erm, most interesting, societies we’ve come across.

Dobby’s Soc, The University of Sheffield

Only a true Potter fan will ‘get’ the title of the cleverly named society, which promises a house ‘sorting’ ceremony and Yule ball, as well as the possibility of a quidditch team, although how the flying broomstick element is to be provided remains to be seen.

Guild of Change Ringers, University of Cambridge

If bell ringing is your thing then this is the society for you, with regular ringing and social events during the course of the year. The society welcomes experienced ringers and beginners, holding frequent practices and Sunday service ringing.

SocieTEA, Leeds University

Hardened tea drinkers will love this society, which uses the humble cuppa to bring students together to chat and unwind. With a ‘Tea Swap Shop’ for home brewers and outings to tea hotspots like London and York, it’s a great way to meet fellow tea lovers.

Warwick Magic, University of Warwick

One for all the aspiring Derren Browns out there, this society promises to further your understanding of magic and even sees its members perform at events. Beginners and pros are welcome.

Fashion Blogging Society, University of Manchester

If you think you’re the next Anna Wintour then this is your chance to mix with fellow fashionistas and publish your fashion forward ideas online. The society offers regular meetings to develop your fashion blogging skills and discuss your latest posts.

Belly Dance Soc, University of Nottingham

For those who want to shake it like Shakira, the Belly Dance Soc holds classes to help you master the art of shimmying whilst getting a full work out at the same time. Hip scarves are optional and you can cover up your food baby if you prefer.
