As temperatures start to drop using more energy is inevitable. Glide has frozen its energy prices until the New Year, so our customers won’t see price hikes during 2013 but we know that keeping energy usage to a minimum is still important.
If turning off the lights when you’re not in a room, nudging the thermostat down a couple of notches and taking the TV off standby just doesn’t feel like enough, you might like to try our Extreme Energy Saving Tips. They’re not for the faint hearted (or cold blooded).
Watch TV in the dark
Use your lights even less by gathering your housemates in one room and watching TV in the dark. If you’re watching a film it’ll give it that cinema feel too.
Study at the library
Why run up your energy bills when you can enjoy free heat and light on campus? Head for the library to get your work done and stay toasty at the same time.
Keep the cold out
Draw the curtains and borrow some of your granny’s old draft excluders.
Shower at the gym
If you’ve been meaning to hit the gym more anyway, why not save time and money by showering there too?
Wear extra jumpers
Plural. The more layers you’re wearing the lower the thermostat can go. Scarves and slippers are also a good idea on a chilly winter evening.
Go out
Better to spend your money on hot chocolates in the SU coffee shop or pints in the bar than on heating and lighting at home.
Spend time with friends
Preferably at their houses.
Stay in bed
It’s warm under the covers and freezing temperatures are the perfect excuse for a lie in.
Huddle
Hanging out with your housemates in the kitchen will save you having to heat the whole house and all those warm bodies should help to keep the chill at bay too.
Spend the holidays with your folks
There’s nothing quite like turning the heating up when you know you’re not footing the bill. Holidays at mum and dad’s should reduce your own energy usage too. Multiply the saving by taking your dirty laundry with you!
