Mums make life simple. From always remembering to cut your crusts off as a child, to helping you move into your new student house, or simply making you a sorely needed cup of tea on a Sunday morning, mums do everything they can to make things less complicated for sons and daughters around the world.
With Mother’s Day fast approaching, we were originally going to write up a quick blog post suggesting awesome gift ideas (as thousands of other websites will be doing this week), but when we started researching such a notion we soon became aware that things don’t need to be so complicated.
This week, thousands of sons and daughters across the country will inevitably find themselves in a state of panic as they rush around town looking to buy a gift or card that sums up all of their appreciation for their mums in one neatly little packaged box. A little something which says:
Thank you for the thousands of hours spent pushing me in a pram as a child. Thank you for giving me an education.
Thank you for the endless cups of tea.
Thank you for your endless patience.
Thank you for keeping me on the straight and narrow.
Thank you for letting me grow up.
Thank you for everything.
Be it a bunch of flowers or a box of chocolates, these traditional (and somewhat unoriginal gifts) mean the world to mums and while we don’t want to encourage anyone to not buy their mum such items, with such a focus on ticking the box for another year, it’s easy to forget what Mother’s Day is actually about.
Be it a simple tacky card, priceless jewellery or a round the world cruise, all of these gifts can be made incredibly more memorable and effective with the addition of saying two simple words out loud.
“Thank you.”
Mother’s Day doesn’t need to be complicated. Keep things simple by simply saying thank you to your mum this year.
Happy Mother’s Day!
