For us, ‘life made simple’ isn’t just a tagline for our brand. It’s our way of doing things and something we all strive to make happen. Whether it’s driving around the UK’s universities to hand out free ice cream, or working on weekends to make sure our 40,000 customers are happy, one thing that remains crucial to Glide’s success is doing all we can to keep things simple.
Our goal for this year is to increase our annual turnover by an ambitious 67% to £25million, but to do this we need to make sure we do everything we possibly can to continue making life simple for all of our customers.
As companies grow it’s all too easy to focus on facts, figures, charts and numbers, without staying true to your principles. When we started Glide in 2006, our primary goal was to try and find a way to take the pain out of staying on top of bills in shared accommodation. It’s been a steep learning curve for us, and we’re the first to admit that a handful of our customers haven’t had things as simple as they should have been – but we want this to change.
Last Friday, to celebrate our eighth birthday, every single member of the Glide team (or ‘Gliders’ as they’re more commonly known) took a surprise trip to a modern art gallery in Nottingham for a full day of activities and challenges to help get everyone thinking creatively about how we can continue making life simple for our customers, and us.
Organised by our friends at ORB Creative Agency, the whole Glide team turned up with absolutely no idea of what was in store for them.
With a morning wake up call, breakfast, tea and coffee on the journey, live illustrations, empowering team talks from the Glide management team, a team of actors with a particularly unique talent for recreating and capturing the emotion of everyday stressful situations and, to cap the day off, our very own Dragon’s Den, we’d like to think we did more than enough to get everyone thinking creatively.
We even went so far as to give the office a complete makeover while everyone was away – including a new stress relieving ping-pong table, beautiful illustrations all over the walls, and an awesome new water cooler – which made sure everyone bought into our renewed sense of purpose and vision on Monday morning.
This year marks the start of a huge push for Glide. We know we’ve got the right product, and the right people to make all 100% of our customers happy, but the most important thing for us will be to continue looking for even more ways to make life simple.
