With hundreds of new apps released every single day it can be tricky to stay up to date with all the latest releases. To make things a bit simpler, university student Isabel Whiteley from Accommodation For Students, lists her top 5 free apps for students.

I dare you to find a student who doesn’t own some kind of smart phone, tablet or game console. Almost all of us students have a device we can’t bear to be more than two metres away from at any given moment and it wounds us to have to hide these in order to revise and do coursework. You’ll know how it is by now – you check Facebook and then put your phone down to work on your essay… only to discover your essay is nowhere to be seen and you’re on Facebook.  Again.  It needn’t be such a struggle though – there are apps which compliment your student needs and help you to keep track of your life – and your coursework!

1. Evernote – http://evernote.com/

Evernote is one of the most useful things to be created in the history of ever – that is 100% no exaggeration.  It’s the best way to keep track of your notes, schedule and day-to-day life.  It’s available for Mac and Windows for your computer and Windows; and Android and iOS for your phone so you can get it for loads of devices.  Basically, anything you do on Evernote can be accessed from any of the devices you have it on.  Say you take lecture notes on your phone? They’ll be on your computer when you get back.  You can access your stuff offline and it’s all easily organisable with folders.  You’ll need to add a tag to everything when you save it but that’s hardly an issue when it lets you easily search the content you have saved.  All in all Evernote is literally a must have for any student.

2. Toshl Finance – https://toshl.com/

Now, if you’re anything like me, you’ll see your latest instalment of student loan, and immediately want to go shopping!  Well this app is here to save such splurges, by letting you easily budgeting your cash so you don’t end up living off super noodles for two months.  It’s available for iOS, Android, Windows and Symbian so you can pick it up for almost any smart phone.  Using the app you can figure out how much money you’re spending – all those nights out really do start to add up – and start budgeting for specific expenses like… rent.  And food.  And maybe even those new shoes now you know where all your money is.  It’ll take one of your worries off your mind and help you concentrate on Uni work instead.

3. All Recipes – http://allrecipes.co.uk/

Okay we’ve all been there… it’s dinner time on Sunday night and you’re starving.  You check the kitchen to discover the fridge is bare and there’s only two ingredients in the cupboard.  All Recipes is there to help you in these awful, awful situations.  It’s available online and has a mobile optimised site for when you’re on the go.  Simply type in what ingredients you can scavenge and it’ll pop up with all the dishes you can create with those items.  It has all kinds of meals; my favourites are the dessert dishes cause there’s so many different kinds of ice cream I never knew existed and let’s be honest – Rocky Road Ice Cream is a gift from the heavens.  All Recipes will help you make the most of the food you buy, so make sure you check it out!

4. Examtime- https://www.examtime.com/

It’s no secret that we all dread exams, but with Examtime it’s really not as daunting as it seems!  Simply make an account and start revising – this app allows you to make mind maps, flashcards, quizzes and notes to help you get any confusing terms into your head, allowing you to spend your free time socialising with your friends.  Resources created by other users are also available to use, so if you’re super lucky someone will have already made those flashcards with all those baffling concepts for you to use!  It may not be your kind of thing but it doesn’t hurt to give it a try, and who knows? It really could help you turn that 2:1 into a First!

5. Voucher Codes- http://www.vouchercodes.co.uk/

I have honestly lost track of how many times I’ve used Voucher Code.  I literally don’t buy anything online now without first checking there’s a coupon code for it, and this has saved me so much money!  It’s available online but you can also get an app for on the go access.  You simply pop onto the site and type in the store you’re shopping at (my personal favourite is Domino’s Pizza) and it’ll show you a list of codes and discounts.  You just copy and paste the code into the checkout on the site you’re buying from and you get money off or BOGOF offers!  You’d be surprised at how much money you could save and they even have exclusive offers only available on their site.  It’s definitely one of the #1 must have apps for students!

Those are the five best free apps for students in my opinion, but there could be others out there so it’s worth checking the app store charts to see if anything new has come out.  If you have any suggestions for great apps please leave a comment!
