Many students opt for part-time work whilst at university. The extra cash helps to fund a social lifestyle without burning through your student loan. But how do you manage a part-time job whilst studying?

Here’s some helpful advice on finding something that suits you, your work load, and your social calendar…

  • Bar work is always a popular choice for students as busy cities are full of them and it’s usually pretty easy to find the work. It can also be a lot of fun and very sociable, not to mention the tips from generous customers always come in handy too!
  • Restaurants and pubs are another easy place to find part-time job opportunities as they are always looking for waiting staff. This job can also come with some welcomed tips too.
  • Shop work tends to be a pretty flexible part-time role for lots of students. Plenty of stores hire around busy periods such as Christmas when most places need extra pairs of hands. The benefits that come with shop work are also an attractive offer, especially if you’re a bit of a shopaholic – that extra 20% off and first pick of the seasonal sales can be too good to refuse!
  • Look for relevant career work – This is a good way to gain some experience in the field that you plan to go into. You could also offer a few hours of your time a week, which would look great on your CV.
  • University jobs – There will always be opportunities arising within your student unions for particular roles at your university. SU’s are also a great way place to network and make contacts with other organisations outside your university – they do say it’s not what you know but who you know.
