So it’s that time of year again. It may be your first time, you may be a veteran, but one thing’s for sure – finding a property that’s right for you can be pretty stressful.

I’m going through the same stress at the moment.

So here’s a few helpful questions to consider asking your landlord before you commit to anything:

Where’s the nearest supermarket?

This is essential as it will literally be your lifeline for everything to get a party started.

Is there parking?

For those of us lucky enough to have a car whilst at university you will question whether you’re legally allowed to constantly after last night’s antics.

How much is the deposit?

Ask before signing anything. You have to have your deposit sorted before your student finance goes in in September. If you don’t, you risk losing your reservation on your room.

Is the deposit returnable?

More importantly, are you going to a festival this summer? Of course you are! (with your returnable deposit).

Are bills included?

Some Landlords or letting agencies don’t offer bills included so if this is the case, why not join Glide to take the stress of bills away.

Which day do we put out the bins?

Not the most glamorous of tasks but useful to know as you don’t want your kitchen to stink!

When does our tenancy start and end?

Your landlord or letting agency should tell you, but always ask just to make sure.

And one final useful tip…

What condition is the property in?

Make sure you carry out your own inventory prior to moving in, just in case there may be mould present or you discover damage to furniture/parts of the property. This keeps you covered as you could be charged or face losing your deposit when moving out.
