Ever sat and wondered where your choices in life will take you? If you’re a university student or soon to become one, you might find yourself wondering whether you’re doing the right course. If you do happen to think your destiny lies elsewhere, here are seven rather ridiculous university courses that might be what you were truly born to do.
Course 1: Harry Potter and the Age of Illusion
Where: Durham University, England (not Hogwarts unfortunately).
Diehard Harry Potter fans have the option to dedicate their lives to studying their favourite books of all time. Students at University of Durham learn the reasons why Harry Potter became so popular. They use the books and films to critically analyse its success. We reckon this course is just a big excuse to have Harry Potter marathons every day of the year.
Course 2: Tree Climbing
Where: Amongst the trees of Cornell University, New York, USA.
Yes, believe it or not you can actually gain a qualification in tree climbing at Cornell University. The course teaches students how to climb to the top of any tree, no matter how high. You can even learn to climb from tree to tree. Now that will be useful for becoming a professional monkey!
Course 3: Surviving the Coming Zombie Apocalypse
Where: Michigan State University (Zombie-ville), USA.
We may be laughing now, but when the Zombies come for us we will regret not studying this course. This fully online course offered by Michigan State University examines what it takes to survive in times of a Zombie crisis.
Course 4: Maple Syrup
Where: Alfred University, New York, USA.
A course dedicated to making maple syrup, because who doesn’t love maple syrup? Students at Alfred University learn not only the history but also how to make this glorious substance.
Course 5: How to win a beauty pageant
Where: St Oberlin College, Ohio, USA.
Who doesn’t want to dedicate their life to winning Beauty Pageants? This course takes students through the history of Beauty Pageants from the 1920’s. It also includes a field visit to the Ohio pageant.
Course 6: Learning from YouTube
Where: Pitzer College, California, USA.
If you already spend most of your time watching videos of screaming goats, why not get a degree in it? At Pitzer College you can do just that. Student spend the duration of this course watching and analysing YouTube videos. Some students even make their own.

Where: Centre College, Kentucky, USA
