University can be tough, especially when you have lectures to go to, mounds of essays to write and exams to pass. And if you’re not one of those people who can get up at the crack of dawn, skip to uni, come straight home and crack out an assignment, then it can be hard to keep yourself motivated. You may also find yourself questioning whether uni is even for you.

It is important that you remember exactly why you chose to go to uni in the first place, and that is either because you’re not ready to face full time work (we all know that’s the real reason) or you actually need to go to uni to get that career you’ve always wanted.

Here are some tips to keep you motivated at uni;

  • Consider how you want your future to look, university is only a small fraction of your whole life, therefore remember how much you’ll benefit from uni and how it will help you reach your goals.
  • Get some early nights in, as boring as it sounds, getting an early night will allow you to feel more awake having had a better nights sleep. It will hopefully prevent you from snoozing that alarm until midday!
  • Eat well and exercise, as much as we all love to take-away and chill, eating healthily and and exercising gives us more energy which helps us stay focused.
  • Set yourself goals each week, whether it is completing an assignment, setting aside some revision time or attending study groups. Setting goals should help you feel a sense of achievement aiding you to feel more productive.
  • Don’t compare yourself to others! We all do it! But comparing yourself to someone who you feel is more together than you or more academic, can affect how you feel about yourself. We all learn differently and at different paces and that is fine!!
  • Listen to your favorite music, for some this can improve concentration and for others can simply relax or inspire. Sometimes just listening to your favorite playlist can make you feel better about things!
  • Don’t stress over bills, if managing your bills is causing more stress than uni work itself, then consider your options, Glide can take all this stress away by condensing your monthly bills into one bill.
  • Have fun, if you’ve constantly got your head in the books and not socializing with your mates, then this can take it’s toll on you. Having fun will help recharge your motivation.

Remember, uni is a small fraction of your life and can be one of the greatest experiences you’ll have! You can do it!!
