Earlier this year we conducted an Annual Employee Satisfaction Survey, which was introduced for the very first time to allow us to understand and acknowledge our employees feedback, on various factors surrounding their roles and job satisfaction. The survey also enables us to gain insight into areas where improvement is needed, after all, a happy workplace is a productive workplace! Moving forward, we will continue with the survey annually, aiming to continuously improve our employee satisfaction and ensure Glide remains an awesome place to work! Feedback highlighted in the survey are here:
So, to kick start, we had a whopping 70% of Gliders take part in the survey, which was a great response rate giving us some valuable results to move forward with!
We were happy to see that 85% of Gliders said that they are proud to work for Glide (phew!) and 7 out of 10 said that they are satisfied with their job. Although this isn’t perfect, it’s sure as hell is a good start and we’ll only keep trying to better this!
Whether employees understand their roles and responsibilities is also a key factor for us to consider, therefore we were happy to see that 95% of Gliders clearly understood both. It dipped slightly however, to 75% when asked if people felt that their workload was manageable. Let’s face it, no one wants to be snowed under, not seeing the light of day because they are neck deep in work, therefore to bump this score up next time round, we are discussing ways to ensure employees views on this are improved.
It can be a rare occasion to land a good manager that you get along with, luckily, 95% of our team felt they have a good working relationship with theirs. Although this is an excellent result, only 78% feel that they have regular discussions regarding their performance and a lower score of 57% agree that they have a training plan in place. Of course, we want to the feedback to be better, therefore these results have been taken on board and all managers will be encouraged to have regular feedback sessions with the team and ensure personal development plans are put in place, so watch this space!
One of the elements that Glide prides itself on, is the unique culture, we believe in a healthy work life balance, we want Gliders to feel that they have time to have as much fun outside of work as they do in work. Our ethos is clearly evident through the 88% of Gliders who feel that they have a healthy work life balance, even though 12% disagreed and thought this area could be improved, discussions will still be had to develop this even further, hopefully the 12% will feel that their work life balance has improved a year from now.
Unfortunately some Gliders feel that their achievements go unnoticed. This is an area that we are fully aware needs to change. Excitingly, we have just launched a ‘People’s Forum’, which we are confident will bring together peer to peer recognition schemes and awards! Some Gliders have already started their regular meets to discuss, plan and organise internal activities to increase motivation, productivity and general satisfaction within the team and already have some fun plans in place. All of the Glide team do a fantastic job therefore we want individuals to be recognised and praised regularly for their hard work.
Finally, communication across the business has never been our strongest point, we hold our hands up to this. Although some Gliders understand how to feedback ideas and improvements, others feel that they aren’t always engaged with updates and changes, and would like to be more involved in meetings and steering groups. It’s always tricky keeping on top of this when the business is so busy, but rest assured, we are looking at a clearer internal communications strategy, hopefully one day we can introduce our very own company intranet, now wouldn’t that be the dream!
Overall, we knew that Glide is a great place to work and the feedback from the Annual Staff Satisfaction Survey confirms this, sure we have some areas to improve on, but let’s face it, who doesn’t. The great thing is that our staff are empowered to tell us what needs to change and we are keen to all work together to become an even stronger and better team.
