We look forward to summer all year, but when we finally get that scorcher day we can’t hack the heat and spend all of our time moaning that ‘it’s far too hot’…. there’s just no pleasing us.
Rather than spending all day melting in your student house or fanning your face with pieces of course work, we have some super cool hacks which are quite literally life savers and will definitely keep you cool this summer:
- Put ice water in front of your fan.
This is so easy and really does it’s job, place a bowl or bottle of ice water in front of your fan and it will keep the air super chilled. Awesome for those hot summer nights when it’s ‘too hot’ to sleep!
2. Freeze your pillows
Well, not literally, just fold your pillow cases into a bag then put the bag in your freezer 1 hour before you go to bed. This will feel like heaven when you put them back on and will save you having to keep turning your pillow to get that ‘cool side’.
3. ‘Cold’ water bottle
Say goodbye to your water bottle, because this will now be your cooler. Instead of filling your hot water bottle with hot water, add cold water and put into your freezer for 1 hour. When you take it out, wrap a tea towel around it and hug it for dear life!
4. Run your wrists under cold water
This has been tried and tested and I can confirm, it really does work! When you’re literally melting, run your wrists (or any visible pulse) under cold water. The main veins run through your wrists so will keep your body cool.
5. Close your curtains
Aside from feeling like a vampire, you’ll feel so much cooler if you close your blinds when it’s sunny. This will trap any heat coming through your windows, but as soon as it’s dark, open them again. It’s a simple hack, but a worthwhile one.
6. Replace your quilt with a sheet
No one can be dealing with a thick quilt when it’s 100 degrees outside. So put this away during the summer months and use a sheet instead. They do this in hotel rooms abroad for a reason you know.
Hopefully these come in useful for you this summer to stay chilled.
