As a teenager we think we know it all, no matter how many times our parents, teachers and the whole world tell us we don’t!
Generally, the only responsibilities we have is making it to class on time, turning up to the table when dinner is cooked and making sure we aren’t seen in the same outfit twice… I mean heaven forbid!
It’s only when we venture off to uni that it hits us, we literally know nothing and start to appreciate that our parents did in fact do an amazing job! It is then we realise that we need to step up and learn how to ‘adult’.
Here are some of the most valuable things we learn whilst at uni!
Food Shop…
So, first things first, you’ve gotta eat! But where the hell do you shop? We have no choice but to find out where the local supermarkets are, normally in student area’s we are blessed with the cheaper supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl, which, if you’re not a food snob are great on the ol’ bank!
Get Cooking…
Now we’ve got the food, we can either do what many other students do and throw anything in the pan and hope for the best, or we can get our hands on a student recipe book which usually suggest cheap meals, that way we get to learn how to cook properly! One of the best is ‘The Ultimate Student Cook Book’.
Those dishes won’t wash themselves…
No one likes washing up, let’s face it, it is one of the worst chores you can do! But, if we don’t want to annoy our housemates, then we have to wash those dirty dishes. A great student hack is to cover the plates in cling film, that way washing up can be a thing of the past!
Budgeting…
One of the most fundamental things we should do as a student is BUDGET! Yes budgeting is as boring as it sounds, but the only way we can successfully manage our money is to ensure we know exactly how much money we have to last us until our next student loan! If bills are also making it impossible, then Glide is a great option!
Making Friends…
It’s always hard making new friends. But, uni really forces us to build friendships as we need to step out of our comfort zones and put ourselves out there! This is definitely a confidence builder, something that will benefit us when we leave uni and have to face the big wide world. Also, the friends we make at uni, normally end up being friends for life!
Independent learning
One of the greatest things about uni, is freedom! If we are living away from home we experience complete freedom for the first time, which is great in many ways. However, it also means that we have to be strict and motivate ourselves to do work! At home our parents nag us to do our homework, at uni we don’t have that! So it’d be good to nail self discipline now!
Managing Bills
Setting up a direct debit and asking housemates to make sure they are sending money when your bills are due, can be a total nightmare! More often than not, we’re pulling our hair out having to chase payments, to always be fobbed off with excuses or ignored completely! To prevent any fall outs Glide take all the stress away by providing your utility bills and splitting the cost evenly between housemates each month.
There’s so much we learn at uni, we’d love to hear what you have learnt so far on Twitter or Facebook.
