You’ve had a hard year grafting in the library and deserve a few days on a beach in the sun. And you’ve been good and paid all your electricity bills in full with a Glide Utilities payment plan so there is a bit of your student loan and part time wages left! So where to go?

Two weeks all-inclusive at a five star resort is probably a little bit beyond your budget but there are plenty of cheap, cheerful and beautiful places to travel to.

The best place to search for a great deal is online and a student internet deal with Glide will provide fast, cheap broadband. So gather your mates around the sofa and choose your next adventure together from the snugness of home.

Bulgaria

Mountains, local culture and golden beaches. Bulgaria is on the Black Sea and has increased in popularity over the last few years. Students will find it’s cheap to travel there and the cost of a few beers and simple but delicious food is very affordable. Sunny Beach is the party capital of Bulgaria if that’s your thing but it’s just as easy to escape and lounge on gorgeous soft sand in the sunshine.

Barcelona

Super cheap to travel to via budget airlines; Barcelona and its surrounding coast is the perfect getaway destination for poor students. The city itself is just divine. Incredible architecture, art, delicious food and flea market shopping will fill a whole week and if you are careful, it doesn’t have to be expensive.

The coast, just a short train ride away, boasts small, pretty local towns, rugged coves and lots of opportunity for snorkelling. Eat a beach picnic of ham toasties, Lay crisps and drink Estrella while watching the sun go down.

Egypt

Recent events in the world have really hit Egyptian tourism in the last few years. This has led to the most fantastic five star hotels going for stupid prices. One day when you are rich and thinking of your business utilities rather than your student loan these are the type of hotels you might be staying in. Friendly people, a massive pool all to yourself and some of the best scuba diving in the world await!

Croatia

One of the most beautiful countries in the world and now the location for the iconic book and TV series ‘Game of Thrones.’ Dubrovnik is also King’s Landing and fans flock to have their pictures taken amongst the gorgeous architecture. We’re pretty sure at least some of your student internet data allowance has been used to stream episodes the epic and bloody drama. If not, why not?

Croatia is worth visiting for all sorts of reasons: soaring mountains, lush National Parks, beaches, Roman ruins and cheap beer. Even the most popular resort of Hvar still has plenty of cheap apartments for rent and budget flights in mid to low season are great value.

Remember these Glide tips

Wherever it is you choose to go, remember these Glide tips:

  • Search for cheap flights, apartments and transfers online. Look carefully and the best deals with be all yours
  • Don’t book after a few gins or under the influence of friends with more money than you. Stick to your budget
  • Check with Glide whether you overpaid on your electricity bills this year as the money you get back will be handy for spending money
  • Do your research before you travel to find the best, cheapest places to eat and drink in the area
  • Sight-see and relax rather than shop till you drop. Days can be exciting and fun without needing to spend loads of money.

This last tip is really important to help ensure your student trip will be enjoyable so budgeting is key – as it is when you return to uni and your studies! You should always place your personal safety first wherever you go and don’t take risks abroad that you wouldn’t take at home.

The aim of having fun is to relax from the stresses of your studies and to learn about new cultures and countries and the people who live there – travelling really does, as they say, broaden the mind, and you will return to uni refreshed and relaxed and keen to crack on with your studies once more.
