Top 5 Tips to get through winter this year…
The clocks have gone back, the dark nights are drawing in and your shared household bills have shot up. It can only mean one thing: winter is coming.
Don’t let the imminent cold nights drag your mood down. There are plenty of ways you can prepare for the upcoming months, so here are our Top 5 Tips…
Have cosy nights in:
Splash out a bit on your shared house bills once in a while, after all, that essay you just blagged means that you deserve it. Switch the heating on for a full evening, grab all your housemates and have a night in watching films or playing video games with snacks and blankets. Your immune system will probably thank you too!
Cook stodgy meals:
We’re thinking pie and chips, curries, casseroles…. Everything that fills you and warms you up! If you’re trying to cut down the amount you spend on your student bills, try making a large batch and freezing it.
Turn your heating on:
It’s the old myth that by keeping the heating off as long as possible will save you money. In actual fact, you end up getting a damp house with frozen pipes that burst. You can say goodbye to your deposit for sure.
When you share household bills, come up with a compromise that means you can turn your heating on for just a couple of hours each day.
Cut down the time spent in the shower:
When it’s a cold morning and you’re in a hot shower, it takes a lot of self-discipline to not stay there for 30 minutes straight. If everyone were to do it, then your shared house bills would increase significantly. Keep it to a maximum of 10-15minutes and your bank balance will look a lot healthier, you’ll be doing a good deed for the environment, and you’ll have more time to get your work done (or stay in bed a little longer!)
Make an investment in some good quality knitwear:
Cut your student bills by simply wearing a jumper! Make a request for your gran to knit you one, or get yourself down to the shops to get a big, thick, woollen cover-up. It’s impossible to keep your heating on all day every day, so during those hours when it starts to get a little chilly, make yourself a cup of tea and slip an over-sized jumper on.
With these simple tips you can avoid having to pay more for your student bills. Remember that with Glide, we will never charge you for more than what you actually use, this way you can be sure that you won’t have to face any surprise bills this winter.
