On the 12th December, Glide were delighted to exhibit at the Student Accommodation Conference in London, the Student accommodation (PBSA) market’s headline event. We launched our exciting new proposition, the Smart Block 2020. As sponsors of the Innovation Zone, we had prime position in the conference hall, with a whopping 50sqm space where we built our very own Smart Block inclusive of reception area, lift, student bedroom and plant room.
The Smart Block brings together best-in-class technical solutions as a single product. Glide is offering a managed service proposition that brings together Pervasive Wireless, Smart Fibre Infrastructure™ and IoT integration, using five key technologies: submetering, managed thermostat, water escape, water safety and environment.
Previously the amount of investment required to install and integrate Smart technology and to control every system and the subsequent lack of return-on-investment has made the business case weak. However, this is highly likely to change in the short to medium term. Developers should therefore be preparing their buildings for an IoT and Smart technology boom and looking at incremental gains as new technologies become available.

- A Smart Block should positively impact both operational efficiency and operational costs and deliver a rapid return-on-investment;

Using a combination of props, optical illusions and technology, we created a completely immersive experience for delegates to explore and learn about the benefits that Smart Block offers to both residents and operators. It was an incredibly successful event and the stall was incredibly busy all day as hordes of delegates came to explore and be shown around by members of the sales, marketing and product development teams.
In addition to launching our Smart Block whitepaper, we took part in a discussion panel on the PropTech revolution in PBSA, delivered three 10-minute Smart Tech talks throughout the day and attended the Awards dinner. Congratulations to all who won, particularly true for Glasgow West End, winners of the Glide - Private Halls of Residence of the Year Award.
