6th June 2022, UK: Glide, a market leader in utilities, broadband and connectivity, continues to work in partnership with the Unite Foundation, a charity that delivers a unique accommodation scholarship scheme for care leavers and estranged young people at university.

Following on from the success of placement schemes over the last three years, where Unite Foundation students were employed with Glide at its Birmingham HQ during the summer, the business continues to support the charity and deliver professional and personal development opportunities for its students with at least six paid roles being offered in Birmingham this summer in 2022.

Being armed with a strengthened CV, real-world work experience and a list of industry contacts is important for those next steps after graduation – one step closer to a chosen career and securing an income to support themself.

The Unite Foundation works in partnership with 26 universities across England and Scotland and has awarded over 500 scholarships since 2012. This year the charity marks its 10th anniversary with a celebratory event on 30th June to toast its collective achievements over the past decade and set out ambitious plans for growth.

Glide is proud to have been working with the Unite Foundation since 2015. Glide is excited to be a part of the charity’s future plans, providing further employment opportunities for students as well as supporting student community development. The business provided 27 laptops that were given as prizes to students who are being supported by the Unite Foundation to create their own community and feel better connected to other estranged and care experienced students across the UK.

Rhys Thomas, Customer Experience Director at Glide said: “Helping the larger community is really important to Glide. We believe that every young person, irrespective of background, deserves equal access to education and the Unite Foundation is an excellent cause. We will continue to offer our unwavering support to the charity and celebrate the great work that it does.”

Helen Arber, Head of Operations at the Unite Foundation said: “Glide’s continued support for the Unite Foundation is hugely appreciated; gifts of technology to get young people connected plus annual, paid, summer student internships are particularly valuable for care experienced and estranged students who are putting themselves through university without family support.”
