We’ve gathered some of the most effective and easy tricks to get you started in your student home, possibly even saving you money on your utility bills!

Small changes, big effects!

  • Turn the thermostat down by 1˚C to save roughly 10% off your bill
  • Switch over to green bulbs to use 90% less energy
  • Turn off lights and switches when not in use or needed
  • Pop on a cosy jumper when it gets chilly
  • Wash your clothes at 30˚ to save the pennies
  • Open the blinds and embrace natural light (in the summer)
  • Keep curtains closed to trap in the heat (in the winter)
  • Fill the kettle using a mug for the number of cuppa’s you’re making
  • Only charge your phone when it’s about to die!
  • Give your boiler a break and turn it off when you’re away
  • Low flow shower heads are the way forward
  • Use 2 quilts instead of an electric blanket
  • Hang your clothes out to dry, tumble dryers are a no go!
  • Don’t invest in an electric heater, get cosy instead
  • Turn everything off, including your heater when you go home for Christmas
  • Grab a hot water bottle when you can’t warm up
  • Using a saucepan? Use the lid to help your food cook quicker
  • Lower your C02 emission by turning all the plugs off
  • Always turn the tap off when brushing your teeth
